  1. Ok well I thought I started a thread about this but I guess not. Anyways I have a bunch of home recorded vhs, using the 9800 AIW 128mb with the ati mv hack. What happens is when I play the video withour recording, I'll see some colors but also a bunch of white flashing as well, I'm so sure its not MV because I recorded this same tape b4 using an older ati mmc and it played and recorded fine so I'm not sure what the problem is, I dont want to downgrade. I applied the ati hack b4 also.

To the best of my knowledge none of those hacks work. I guess there is a few new ones around but I haven't see anything that leads me to believe they work. One person will say they do work...other persons says it doesn't work...etc. If you're using the old hack... I can tell you it doesn't work for the 9000 series.

Well do it like you did before... maybe you've found a combination that works. Could be if you're using a new hack that it does work with the version of MMC you had. The key word there is had as you can bet that that the people designing the software are well aware of any hacks available and fill that loophole if they can.

But I'll repeat, that is the MV detection kicking in. You can believe what you want but take it from some one who's been there, done that. What you see is a common occurrence with AIW cards. If you search around you will find (and I'm not exaggerating) hundreds of posts about the flashing you see in this forum alone. The only thing that fixes it that will work 100% is a TBC or other device that removes the MV signal before it gets to the card. If it's a home tape in this case it's just correcting minor errors in the tape that the AIW is prone to see as MV.

You can run a very simple test.... Get a commercial tape and try to record it, you'll see eactly what you see now but worse. Now get a fresh recording of material on VHS preferably on a new tape and see if it happens. Bet it doesn't..... You can try the same thing with broadcast TV, it will record the TV fine.....

  5. Well before when it was working I was using ati mmc 9.02 or so, and I used the same ati hack I'm using now, I know what MV is like I said I've tried it without the hack in palce and all I got was the green screen when I recorded but after I used the hack it worked like a charm and it did for well over 30 commerial tapes that I own. Again I know MV was present on these tapes because I tried some other cap card and it wouldn't do it but the AIW 9800 did. The thing with the tape that I'm trying is that at some parts it would be fine ( 1 show ) and later on at a different part on the tape ( different show ) I'd see the whiteness. All the shows were recorded off tv awhile ago.

  7. Basically I didnt use 9.02 for a while and when I used it again the record button was gone even when the tape wasn't playing so I just upgraded to the newest 1 at the time.
