Hi, new here, have read most of the MOV to something tutorials and many posts but don't feel I've got it yet.
I have a new Panasonic Lumix FX01 which creates full size 3:4 NTSC 30 fps Quicktime .mov files. I want to go from these to DVD with the minimum of recompression.
Inbetween I want to separate and edit and reinsert the sound track (remove hiss - I am using Adobe Audition), and convert the video to PAL, and presumably this also requires / involves conversion to 25 fps.
What I have found is that Nero Vision Express 2 freezes if I try to import the mov files directly although it seems to think it 'can' import them.
So, I am using QuickTime Pro to
1. export soundtrack, edit soundtrack, reimport edited soudtrack, delete original soundtrack.
2. export as AVI in PAL format including conversion to 25 fps using pretty high quality settings.
(Question does it 'have' to be 25 fps or would it play from DVD at PAL resolution but 30 fps?).
3. Importing the AVI to Nero Vision Express 2 and recompressing again to get my final dvd video.
What I especially don't like about the above is the two conversions, first to AVI and then to DVD ready (VOB files I guess).
So is there a better way to get from my mov files to my VOB files? I have a fair bit of software including Premiere Pro 1.5, Adobe Encore DVD (never used it), Nero 7, Quicktime Pro.
I do quite a bit of work with high quality video (using an HD Sony Z1p) but I do not have a grip on how to work with this low end stuff. I absolutely love my new camera, it is so easy to use and unobtrusive that people react totally differently from how it goes when you point a big video rig at them.
Just to make absolutley clear, I am wanting to end up with a DVD product as good quality as possible I am not looking for any internet distribution (I know how to do that).
Thanks for any help
Andrew

try MP4Cam2AVI, it just changes the container to avi for easier converting and editing. works for some movs from cameras.
and convert with something better than nerovision, like tmpgenc xpress, canopus procoder, mainconcept mpeg encoder.
and please wait some days before you bump/reply to your topic. -
I always used TMPGEnc 3 Xpress for all my conversions. Why not try the free trial version? I beleieve it is fully functional except for no AC3 plug-in for trial version. I believe youll get MP2 or LPCM audio. I use the Ac3 plug-in to output AC3 audio.
You should be able to open your MOV file and add the audio track seperate saving a step there. Convert directlt from a MOV file saving another step. It should work with QT Pro, I have been using QuicktimeAlt.
Just choose PAL DVD as your final destination and choose VBR 2 pass for better quality. Xpress will autoset the bitrate for DVD5 or DVD9, your choice.
Then Author in a authoring program before burning with Nero. I use TMPGEnc DVD Author program. It also has a free trial. I'd try the 1.5 version or 1.6 version if you want to author DL discs.
Good Luck
