  1. this seems like an easy thing to do, but I cant figure it out for the life of me... i need to edit some downloaded clips which are mpeg (not sure if its 1 or 2). I am using premiere so I would imagine an uncompressed avi or dv format would be best. any free programs out there that do this? how about tutorials? thanks

Why again did you buy Premiere to edit MPeg? Premiere is for making original video.

To cut edit MPeg2, Womble MPEG-VCR could do it at far less expense.

If you need to do more and must decompress, Premiere can do it as can Vegas, etc. or VirtualDub (free + codec expense).

Womble MPEG-VCR is much easier to learn than the other three.
