  1. Can someone tell me the significance of the message I'm getting from Nero Info when testing several of my DVD-RW discs please: "Open, not finalized".

And the same discs usually refuse to co-operate when I try to burn to them.

When burning discs, you have the option of leaving the disc open or finalizing the disc. If it is left open, you can go back later and burn more data to the disc. If it is finalized, no further data can be written to the disc. Most DVD players and sometimes computers can't read discs unless they are finalized.

  3. Thanks. I understand that in broad terms, but these are RW discs, so surely the issue doesn't arise? I can write over and over - as long as they still work! And when creating the discs I wasn't aware of any option being offered.

So that message is not telling me I won't be able to use them?

They are still usable, just erase or reformat. Nero is just telling you that the session is not finalized.

  5. Thanks. The snag is that they don't seem to be usable! They give error message about 'insufficient space'. And Erase seems to fail too. I'm trying Erase (Quick) right now, using DVDDecrypter. It's been stuck at 95% for 15 minutes...

That Reformat suggestion sounds promising. How can I do that please?

Try erasing or reformating directly from Nero (or whatever recording app that you are using).
