  1. Hello again all, maybe somebody out there can help me with this one…

I'm using a Mac G5 1.6 and making up a project with iMovie. I’m putting together a DVD of video clips of an artist. One of the clips is a 20 minute block of videos that fade into each other, no dips to black. (The block of videos was ripped from a non-official fan DVD) Now this 20 minute block already has chapter points in them where each new video starts, so I just ripped them with Toast and dropped them into the timeline with iMovie. On playback, I noticed that where the chapter point is, there’s a small half second piece of video missing, the video is literally just missing. There’s no black dip or anything, just a little skip in the video which is really noticeable. Any idea why this is happening? Any idea how to stop it?

Since this is a block of videos with no dips to black I'm not going to put fade ins and outs where there shouldn't be any, but I also can't have those skips in the video...TIA!

You will end up having to put the fades back in if you
    want them back in.

You could instead of "ripping with Toast"
(? I guess you mean extract? as Toast doesn't "rip" in the traditional sense)
extract the VOB files of the videos using MPEGStreamclip
( if the DVD is unencrypted) and export these to DV Stream
( be sure to fix timecode breaks FIRST!) to import then
into iMovie ( I assume you are using iMovie 6).

Once into iMovie 6, check and see if the fades remain intact.
If they still do not, then you will have to add the fades yourself
simply in iMovie, and then finish out your project.

  3. Hi Terry, well like I said, the 20 min of videos dissolves into each other, and I want to keep those intact. I don't want to have a fade to black because that's not how it originally was broadcast...

    You misunderstood.

If the fades/dissolves don't appear after using MPEGStreamclip,
then you can (easily) recreate them where they are missing
using iMovie and the CROSS DISSOLVE effect.

Since there are several different ways a dissolve
could be created in a DVD ( overlays or transitions
within chapter markers comes to mind in this case),
they could very well NOT be part of the VOB that houses
the videos, and instead exist somewhere within another VOB.

Rather than waste time hunting and pecking for them,
IF THEY DON'T SHOW UP AFTER USING MPEGSTREAMCLIP,
then simply recreate them using the Cross Dissolve effect in
    iMovie.
