I have a number of AVI files that I burned to DVD. I used DIVXtoDVD to convert them to DVD, and Nero Ultra 6 to burn. However, when I play them, the sides are cut off a bit. It's hard to read the subtitles since their so close to the bottom, and if the sentence is long the first and last few letters are cut off. Any way to fix this?

Top left corner of this screen - Glossery. Look up overscan. This will explain why they have been cut off. It won't explain why the people who put the subs on fansub anime still do this though.

Now search the forums for overscan, avisynth and subtitles and you will find literally hundreds of posts with the solution. Unfortunately, DivxtoDVD is not part of it.

Ooook... I came across this topic and they suggested I use FitCD and AVISynth, but I have no idea what to do in FitCD... Something about changing a 0 to a 2?

It is the border you want to change. 2 is a good value in most cases.

be aware, overscan varies from TV to TV. On some you will still lose image at the side, on others you will see the borders

What do I do with the AVS file? I can't use TMPGEnc anymore...

EDIT: Do I change these numbers?

No. Look over to the right-chand side Where it says Blocks overscan. That is the setting you need to change. In your case, it is already set to 2.

Save the script, and load that into tmpgenc instead of the avi file.

I can only convert to MPEG-1 (With TMPGEnc). Can I use the MPEG-1 file and convert it with DIVXtoDVD?

Waste of time. Use HCEnc instead and you can encode to mpeg2 for free.

    Use bbmpeg instead , accept's :

    Frameserved avi's from virtualdub/mod
    Avi's
    Avisynth script's

It is also the only mpeg encoder , while rich in feature's and freeware from the start ... it give's you a preview of what it is you will produce ... as far as I know , no other mpeg encoder provide's this feature .

    ----------------------------------------

The only other issue , is if these subtitle's are permanent on the video itself .
