Has anyone managed to be able to get realmedia (.rm) files to be able to be recognised and converted with ffmpegx? I'm unable to do this on my intel iMac and I wasn't able to do it with my PPC G5 either. If someone has been successful, please advise how it's done and also provide a link to the particular plugin used?
    Thanks

  2. You should follow instructions at http://homepage.mac.com/major4/download.html and use the link named "stable build" for the libraries.

Hey thanks, that has gotten me one step closer. Instead of saying "REAL......No video....No Audio", I now get "REAL...RealVideo, 320x240, 29.000 fps......RealAudio, 44100Hz, 44 kbps"
However, it's giving me this error:
    Code:
    Sun Apr 16 21:58:58 EST 2006
    Unsupported video codec
    Input #0, rm, from '/Users/<my name>/<files name>.rm':
      Duration: 00:22:16.7, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 228 kb/s
      Stream #0.0: Audio: 0x0000, 44 kb/s
      Stream #0.1: Video: RV30, 320x240, 12.00 fps, 180 kb/s
      Stream #0.2: Data: 0x0000
Codec type mismatch for mapping #0.0 -> #0.0
I take it that it can see the format but can't decode it.. :S
EDIT: Maybe you have a link to an .rm file you know should convert successfully I could try?
    Thanks

  4. You should use mencoder presets to convert Real, like "DivX mencoder".

Well it doesn't fail instantly, but it idles:
    Code:
    VDec: vo config request - 320 x 240 (preferred colorspace: Planar I420)
[PP] Using external postprocessing filter, max q = 6.
VDec: using Planar I420 as output csp (no 0)
Movie-Aspect is 1.33:1 - prescaling to correct movie aspect.
SwScaler: FAST_BILINEAR scaler, from Planar YV12 to Planar YV12 using AltiVec
    using SAR=11/15

I can see altivec in there, which I know is a feature of a G4 processor that is not emulated yet. Would this be why it won't work on my intel mac?

  6. It doesn't idle, it works normally. The duplicate frame is the normal result of using a target framerate differing from the source framerate, but the movie is nevertheless being encoded (look for the target file and check that it is growing in size).

Thanks very much, Major. It did work, just no indication of progress - which isn't really an issue, I just have to learn to be more patient. The resulting mencoder .avi plays flawlessly in VLC. Cheers
