  1. I have an avi file but i don't seem to be able to convert the wav audio for it into mp3.

    It is quite annoying.

I have the lame mp3 codec.
But in virtualdub (and mod) no formats show up, and when i click the show all formats and choose one i get an error when trying to encode.

I have also tried exporting the audio and converting that with an audio converter but i still get an error

Could you be forgetting to go to Audio>Full Processing?? and then Audio>Conversion??
I'll assume that you've got the .mp3 codec installed on your system...

Where did you get the WAV? If someone saved it out with VD and didn't use full processing, it may be a different format in a WAV wrapper. The freeware Audacity will also convert WAVs to MP3 using Lame.

And do you have the AC3 ACM Decompressor installed for VD?

Usually digital still cameras use anything but .WAV files for audio..In order to keep the filesize down of course.
    Usually, it's .MOV, or Mpeg1...
Of course, there might be .AVI containers available, but i'm shocked that they'd use .WAV for audio..

If you load the file into VirtualDub, and go to File>File information, what is the result??
