DVD+R Drive going Wonky

OK. I have a "Verbatim" DVD+R drive.

I say "verbatim" because the company never made this drive (It says Verbatim on all the documentation and the box, but the drive doesn't show up as a Verbatim Drive in my system). It started having problems with an "Illegal Disc" error in nero, but after I flashed a new Firmware to it (Ricoh 5125 firmware upgrade) the drive no longer has this issue.

But it's started acting up with another problem, a Focus/Tracking error.

I'm trying to use Memorex media that my brother uses and am really unsure if that could be the issue

Does this mean my drive is totally hosed and I have to get a new one or is there something I can do to fix this?

That sounds like a mechanical, not a firmware/software error. I would try cleaning the laser lens. If you get no where with that, you might consider replacing it.

EDIT: Well, it certainly won't hurt to try a different brand of media, though that doesn't really sound like a media problem.

Crap.

I don't know why it woudl start suddenly going crappy on me. I barely use it to burn DVD's.
