HD-DVD & Blu-ray movie boxes unveiled, 1080p standard

DVDActive has posted the fronts and backs of several soon-to-be-released (or not so soon) Blu-ray and HD-DVD titles so you know what color boxes to look for when they hit stores. The most interesting development is that despite rumors to the contrary, all the HD-DVD movies posted state they are formatted in 1080p.

Even though most of us don't have 1080p TVs yet and the initial HD-DVD players will max out at 1080i, those concerned about "future proofing" their next generation DVD collection may still have an option in HD-DVD.

I've experienced High Definition already and am not likely to buy into this fiasco. Who wants to spend another $900 on a "Betamax like" boat anchor?

That is unless they promise to replace the player (and BD discs) if the format fails.

Lionsgate just announced their titles ... and that they will be delayed a month (till june)

Confirmed Lionsgate Blu-ray titles: Lord of War, The Punisher, Devil's Rejects, Saw, T2: Judgment Day, Reservoir Dogs, Total Recall, Dune, Rambo: First Blood, See No Evil

as I was going through the new releases on their site this morning, 2 of them (I can't remeber which titles, as they didn't interest me) you had the option to choose format -- so I guess that means they will start renting them this Tuesday.

Blu ray and HD=DVD will use Blue lasers while current DVDs use Red Laser, so they wont be playable in current dvd players.
