  1. I have started using a workflow that I really like for converting my Blu Ray discs to .mkv.

    1. Use MakeMKV to create an .mkv file of the main movie
    2. Use Handbrake to create a 1080p or 720p movie.
    3. Use MKVMerge GUI to "mux" the subtitles from the "original" .mkv with the output from Handbrake.

This works great except when I create a 720p movie as the subtitles are really big. I guess the problem is that I am merging 1080p subtitles into a 720p movie.

Can anyone recommend a workaround to this problem as I don't really need all of my movies to be 1080p and I use subtitles a lot - but they really detract from the experience when they are really big.

I would like to keep steps 1 to 3 if possible as this is a simple and manageable process for me to work with - I am happy to add another step or two to resolve this subtitle issue if anyone can point me in the right direction.

    Many thanks!

Load the sub into BDSup2Sub and save as 720p.

  3. Thanks for the reply! I figured out that I needed to download eac3to and HdBrStreamE together to extract the subtitles before using BDSup2Sub.

    Cheers!

Mkvcleaver and MKVExtractGUI2 will also extract subs from mkv files.
