    Hi:

I am pretty new at this so please forgive my ignorance. I have done some reading, and I think I understand the basics of DVD, like VOB files, and BUP & IFO files.

    I have 2 questions:

    1. I have a copy protected DVD I'd like to make a backup of. I have downloaded various DVD softwares, like DVDFab Decrypter, FreeDVD, DVD Decrypter and AutoGK. I know that these will rip the files down to the hardrive, removing the copy protection (I think.)

But, what do I do then? Do I just burn these files back to a blank DVD, with the result being a copy of my original DVD with the protection removed? I couldn't seem to find any information on what to do once the files have been ripped and protections removed.

    2. Same thing, but my mum sent me a DVD from England (I am in USA), and I'd like to make a backup of it to a blank DVD, removing the regional stuff so that I can play it in my DVD player.

Thanks for your help, and the great site.

You just burn the ripped content to a DVD of a size comparable to the data being burnt. Your mums DVD might be PAL encoded so you may need to take extra steps to get it to play properly on your output device.

DVDFAB Decrypter or DVDDecrypter in ISO Read Mode to rip, then just burn the results back to DVDR. Of course that's assuming you have a DVD-5, and will burn to a single layer DVDR, or alternatively you have a DVD-9 and will burn to a dual layer DVDR.

If you have a DVD-9 and want to burn to a DVD-5 then (without getting too in-depth into the process) you will need to either remove unwanted materials, transcode existing materials, and/or re-encode to make it fit.
    If in doubt, Google it.

If you need to convert from PAL>NTSC, some guides: https://www.videohelp.com/convert#4;41

But if your DVD player will play the PAL disc as is, much better. Some do, most won't. The software conversions can be a little complicated to get a good quality result. The pulldown method is the easiest, if it will work for you.
