Looking around at various DVDR's at the moment and noticed one thing they all seem to have in common...they all seem to take an age (30-60 seconds) to get from pressing the "on" button from standby to acctually playing/recording a DVD.

I timed the following (in a store...while bored, obviously!) to get from standby to playing a DVD.

    Philips DVDr 3365: 27 secs
    Sony RDR GX210: 47 secs
    Panasonic DMRES15: 32 secs

Are some makes better than others, or is it pot-luck for each particular model?

I'd be interested to hear other peoples thoughts...especially as I am very impatient!!! lol

  2. I think the panasonics with a hd only take a second to start recording. This was one feature they talked about adding but I don't know if they did.

this depends on many factors which is not limited to the hardware. sometimes it takes longer to read the index of a disc depending on how it was burnt, the data contained, the cleanliness of the disc surface, etc.
