Making chapters

o'right, since there r a dozen of experts here, i ask for help:

i want to make chapters in a video file. can i make chapters in an .avi/.mpg file?? or is it only possible to make some in a dvd (vob)?

The Divx container (itself a variation on the avi container) can contain chapters and menus. I don't know if Dr Divx can set this up, or if you need software from Divx Labs. I don't know of any current divx capable players that support these functions.

The standard avi container cannot do what you want, neither can mpg.

If you want a menu for playback on a DVD, author as a DVD. If you want it for playback on a computer only, look into Divx menus.

kk, thx! the q with the avi/mpg formats wasn't really important. i've got a video in .avi format, i want to convert it into a dvd format witch chapters. i got Power Director, but this program is a piece of crap. any other programs wich can make chapters??

Every decent DVD authoring app has chapter capabilities.
Try Tmpgenc DVD Author.
