I have a general question for anyone who is computer savy and maybe can help me. I have 2 hard drives on my computer at this time. One is the general one located under hard drive C: It got full, so I bought another one and installed it last year. I moved all my karaoke files over to it. At the time it went down as being in L: location. Why I don't know. But this year I purchased a new DVD-WR. My husband installed it. Now it is showing my 2nd hard drive as being in the D: location and there is no listing for the hard drive under L: anymore. Like it just switched spots or something? Anyways....since then ALL my karaoke files (full disks) has since disappared. I have tried to put in a search for all files and hard drives for the list, but it comes up with nothing. If I go to properties on the D: drive (2nd hard drive where all the karaoke files where located) it still shows that the hard drive is full. So where did all my files go? Is there a way to do system recovery to an earlier date and have them come beck? Why when the DVD-WR was intstalled that the 2nd hard drive switched locations? ANY suggestions would be extremely helpful. Thanks so much!!

What you are seeing in regards to the HDD changing form L: to D: is quite normal when you transfer a disc from one machine to another. If you really want to reset back to L: do as follows:
1. Go to Control Panel
2. Select Administrative Tools
3. Select Computer Management
4. Click on Disk Management
5. Right click on the Disk D:
6. Select Change Drive Letter and Paths
7. Click on Change and then set whatever drive letter that you want.
I doubt that it will show all your files. However, try resetting your file viewing to show hidden files and directories. That may well show up the files that you want.Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity. -

OK ! Do the following:
1. Double click on "My Computer"
2. Select "Tools"
3. Select "Folder Options"
4. Select tab labelled "View"
5. Put dot next to "Show hidden files and folder"
6. Click OK

I.......I think I love you..............well??? your definately my new best friend!!!
Thank You soooooooooooooooooo much!!!! -
I bought a new PC on sale and it came with a 100G sata drive. A friend with the same machine was able to install a new 160G Pata drive as his C drive and the sata as a backup drive. He is now able to use Ghost 2003 whereas Ghost doesn't like sata drives. I tried the same thing and now have the system installed on the Pata drive but when trying to format the sata drive with Partition Magic, it shows up as a bad drive. When I try to format it with PM it says it is missing MBR. I though formatting wiped the HD clean and started over. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance -
Your SATA drive is formatted and set up as a boot drive. To get it to work as a secondary, none boot drive you will need to delete all partitions, repartition and reformat the drive. BTW MBR means Master Boot Record which should have given you a clue what the problem is
Good luck!Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity. -
Duchess is right. The HD come with PC, often has multiple partitions, for Boot, normal use, and restore... So, to use it as second drive, complete reformat is the way to go.

BTW I should have added that what you are doing voids your warranty so if your PC should go faulty the manufacturer can refuse to service the PC.

Please use a more descriptive title that reflects your post content. "What the heck is going on?????" is not descriptive. You will get more responses this way and others will be able to search for your post subject if they have similar problems.
