Can anyone give me some ideas on this one??
I have downloaded two different versions of the 2001 movie lord of the rings, on one of the files it says you need the latest 4.02 codec for it to work, well I have downloaded the latest one from Divx.com which is 4.10, I would think it should work right?? I have tried windows media player which I updated from the microsoft site yesterday, and I have tried a host of other players with no luck.
Are all these files no good?? I have been trying to get it from kazza and morpheus.
and I know my windows player works because I have downloaded a whole bunch of new movies, and they all work!!
Hope someone can give some advice!!
Thanks Andrew Dale.

One way I've found to get around this is to run the Divx movie through VirtualDub. Set video and audio to "Direct Stream copy". The resulting divx avi should be playable.

Sorry to burst the bubble on this one, but it seems that the movie industry is fighting back by putting fakes out there. I have answered at least three threads on this same subject, and it has been widely repoted in this months u.k. computer press. Just have to do the honest thing and pay dollars for it on Ebay

Wonder how long it'll be till a program is developed to scan a file on a remote host and determine if it is a geniune movie or a fake file?

I've already got Divfix, Datrepairer, Project Mayos "The Player" and "virtual Dub".. It isn't happening on any of them either because its encoded differently or its a fake or its a bad file. In virtual Dub when checking the properties of the file it simply says it is an uncompressed RGB.
Btw - This is no fantasy about the industry putting out pseudo files,I think we are going to see this on the increase..

Btw - when I transfered these files, I started the notorious thread on 56k download speeds simply because I was getting speeds of 40k average. Another member explained this scientifically saying that the file is a corrupt ?? something - I forget the name he used..
