    i dont know if this question has been asked before....
    how do i remove the black bars from the top and bottom of a captured mpeg video?

    The question begs: why? Your file wouldn't get appreciably smaller if you do.

    The you will have to crop the bars off the top and bottom, and then crop the left and right ends off. Otherwise your computer will simply put bars there during playback to fill out the screen, or stretch and distort the image. What you are talking about is widecreen to 4:3 conversion. Is this really what you want ? You will actually end up with less image that if you leave the bars there.

    yes, widescreen to 4:3 conversion, that is what I want to before i convert the mpegs to dvd. how do i do that? what software do i use? thanks.

    You can just hit the ZOOM button on the DVD player. Problem solved, no work involved. Hopefully your player has this, most do.

    virtualdub. Add a null transform filter so you can crop the video, then use the resize filter to resize it up to DVD spec. Frameserve the results to your mpeg encoder.

    DVD Specs are found at the top of the lefthand menu.
