I have a digital camera (Sanyo Xacti C5) that shoots .mp4 video. It has one bad pixel in the dead center of the screen. When I take still photo's I can use the healing brush in Photoshop to fix that with no problem. Which video editing software would offer the same functionality? Seems like it would be simple since the spot never moves.

PS: I can also use the freeware program “mp4cam2avi” to get the videos to .avi if I have too first.

The pixel might never move but the background video will change, so you would have to make some changes at various points throughout the video. For example, if the bad pixel is blocking a white wall, its easy enough to make a tiny white mask but if the video changes to a darker subject then that white mask would show up, so you would need to alter the mask. And if there is a lot of action going on then you will have to switch the mask colour as required. With 30 frames per second that could be a pain.

Depending on just how big an area is affected by this pixel problem, you could try adding a slight blur to the video to make it less noticeable or try a noise removal filter. Any editing app such as Premiere or Ulead Media Studio etc could be able to do this.

A painful way would be to export the video into a .FLM format and open in Photoshop and manually edit each frame.

Perhaps if you could post a frame from the video so we can see what the problem looks like, more knowledgeable people than I could provide options.

  3. What about one of the Logo Removal filters for AVISynth or VirtualDub? It's only one pixel, so it shouldn't be too noticeable.
