I just got myself a new system and when i came to install my old hard drive i noticed that the drives in the new system are complely different to the old one, which means i cannot install the old drive would it be possible to transfer the files (some which are quite large 3-6GB) via a wireless netowrk between the 2 machines?

If you mean sata's , you can by the adapter (ide to sata) .

Last I seen these in ebay for about $20.00au which would be far cheaper than setting up and managing a wireless network .

Or grab an external usb box for it , this way you can take it with you to friend's pc's and share all sort's of file's ... The best unit's come with there own power supply , those that don't are cheap and nasty and can actually damage a pc's usb , because they draw too much current .

In the case of my external lg dvd burner , it draw's 2 amp's when burning dvd's .
The most power any of my pc's deliver via usb is 1 amp .
Thankfully it come's with it's own power supply .

Trying to burn a dvd via this setup , will either cause damage to the motherboard of the connected pc , or the dvd burner will fail to burn dvd .

One thing I did notice , is when connected to usb1 , it will not burn dvd's , cd's are fine .
    On usb2 , everything work's fine ...

I bought it only for the laptop , for cd's anyway ... being able to deal with dvd's was a bonus , although my laptop only has usb1 ... being able to supply cd's to customer's is a better option as they tend to be more scratch resistant than dvd's .

  3. Even your new PC has SATA drive, it most likley still has the PATA interface your old harddrive used.

The DVD or CD drive in your new PC use the sam einterface your old hard drive used. You can add more GB in our PC too.

But wirelss network is more fun, one learn a new things doing that, but it will take at least four time longer.

I run into the same issue, and said the issue is from windows XP.

I put a DVD burner into USB enclosure, and it won't burn DVD-R, on XP.

It burns everything on a win2K PC.
