    Hi everybody in forum!

I have managed to record my daughter's birthday VHS in a DVD-RW by using a standalone DVD Recorder. After that, with VOB2MPG I converted it in a DVD compatible .mpg file. Now, I am planning to edit this file: erase some scenes, add fade-ins, fade-outs, some transitions, etc., but WITHOUT re-encoding to .avi first (Windows Movie Maker way NO!Thanks!). I mean: EDITING THE WHOLE .mpg FILE. Are there any FREEWARE applications which can do this? (Besides AviSynth: NO SCRIPTING, please!).

    Thanks for your reply, guys!

    Regards from Jose

you could try ZS4,Wax but they are not that simple and may not support mpg.

or buy mpeg video wizard, best advanced mpeg video editor.

but remember if you add transitions you must reencode the mpg...so converting to lossless avi and then edit doesn't make that much difference.

Have been using this software to edit DVD recoder clips. MPEG2 streaming is fast and it does have some video transitions. Not that great but good enough for me. It has audio string editor plus additional audio track.

Without all the bull of converting mpeg to avi in simple form , try :

For fade's and more consider T4dvdm , otherwise known as transition's for dvd menu's .

I finally managed to get the thing to work ... not sure about the audio though .. will need to check this crazy program for that .

As for editing out area's of no interest , consider checking out my guide's in the guide's section ... especially my guide on removing commercial's and other non-essential component's from mpeg's prior to authoring to dvd vob's ... I use only freeware to do these job's .

For menu's , and motion menu's , you can learn alot from dvdauthorgui .

I will be completing a guide on both menu's and chapter's with motion component's soon ... expect next week .. simple for most ... but the guide component's can be used immediately by anyone .

The guide will list all the tool's required .
Each script , in ready to go format .

You supply the file's needed , and away you go .

Finishing up with dvdauthorgui to put it all together ...

Yes it involve's avisynth script's , but you dont need to know anything about that for now ... the script's are in "ready to go" format , and avoid several issue's related to the use of mpegsource/directshowsource discovered recently while encoding motion thumbnail chapter's containing 12 thumbnail's (7 and 11 stop soon after start of encoding) .

You could also go to ebay and grab ulead video studio 9 se for under $40au , it covers transition's , and much more ... and it's the best tool for converting one framerate to another without issue .

Version 9 supports lpcm audio creation , mov , flash , wmv conversion ... though spliting and saving a particular portion of any video has become tricky , unlike version 7 which was simple ... so far I have not found any issue's with v9 other than the issue related to saving split video component's (made more confusing than previous version's) .

    It's a worth while investment .

I'm writing a freeware application that will do what you need (SynthEditor - search on this forum )but at this point it snly makes cuts (and only supports Mpeg Files but that's exactly what you need now )... I'll add the transition effects later (it won't take that long... maybe a week or two )
Anyway... at this point you can use it to cut the scenes you want to keep and encode it to a specific final size... if you are willing to do some beta testing try it (by the way... it requires AviSynth but don't worry... no scripting for you at all ).

    keep it UP

    Hi,

I hope somebody can help me out. I would like to make music videoclips. So far i have ript de DVD using DVD Decrypter and converted the vob files to mpeg using vob2mpg.

Now i want to edit the episode to smaller clips. I have installed Cuttermaran 1.66 and found information in another thread to demux the mpeg file to be able to play the file in Cuttermaran.

But i feel like i am doing something wrong. I now have a demux file (using DemuxGui) (video) and a demux file (audio AC3) to edit in Cuttermaran. It works, but when i want to see the finished result it has no sound. In the other thread it is said that a need to convert the audio to mp2 to be able to play audio.

My question is: is this all correct, or am i taking the long way around? (probably am)

I have tried VirtualDub MPEG2 and VirtualDubMOd 1.5.10.2. Love them, but the finished result plays too slow and a clips which is just 4 secs is saved to the HD with a size of 138mb.

Again: i am doing something wrong, but what?

Any help would be much appreciated!

To beable to here ac3 in some tools you need to install the ac3_filter package .. look in tool's section , or use search should turn up result's as to where it can be located .

As for wanting smaller clip's , you mean individual clip's ... I assume this to be the case .

You should have demuxed the vob's using vobedit .

Open first vob of title in vobedit .
This may need doing twice as I dont have the info of that disc .. so

Firstly hit demux , choose via vob id , then check that box "complete title set"
Choose an empty folder , and go .

If this disc has 18 individual clip's , you should have 18 or more vob's in that new folder .
If this didn't produce more than the known number , then delete all from this new folder .

Repeat demux step , but this time via cell id , then check when done .
This will produce alot of vob's .. so you will need to play each one just to know which is which .

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you only now have an mpeg and need to split it into individual clip's .
    You have 3 option's .

    1 : The use of commercial program's .
2 : Frameserving part's of mpeg out to bbmpeg , to produce individual clip's .
3 : If mpeg2 , you can use my commercial removal guide to break it up fast .

    https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=291744 (clipping / commercial removal)

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes it seem's you were going in a circle .
