I know this has been answered before but I am having another problem. I am trying to convert avi's to mpegs so that I can create an episodic menu. I have tried DIKO + DVDStyler but it kept freezing on me. SO I am using TMPGEnc to convert the files. When I try to convert the 200 MB files, they become 1.4 GB mpeg files. Now when I compress them to a smaller size, the result is not good. The picture only displays on about 1/4 of the screen. The rest is black. I have tried this with a 500, 600, and 700 MB file. The only one that seems to work is the 1.4 GB file but this is way too big for an episodic dvd. I want to be able to get 10-13 episodes on 1 dvd. Is there another prgram I can use that is good and works with DVDComposer or am I just screwing something up with my conversions? Thanks.

Drop one of those files into Gspot and post the result here. You can blank out the titles. When you put them into Gspot, check for MP3 VBR audio. That could explain some of the problems. The rest may be obvious to one of us with the Gspot screenshot. Possibly the screen size, or PAL>NTSC conversion errors.
And welcome to our forums. -
My best advice is to learn TMGPEnc by following a guide. Like this one: http://members.dodo.com.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm

Name.........: %@

Video Bitrate: 856 kbps FPS : 23.976 0.116 bits/pixel
Audio Codec..: 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
Audio Bitrate: 128 kb/s (64/ch, stereo) CBR

I am trying to recompress it as we speak. Don't know if it will work but I am going to give it a shot. Thanks for the replies so far. -
I would drop the Xvid into VirtualDub and check it for errors. If none, try frameserving it to TMPGEnc with VirtualDub. Frameserving solves a lot of compatibility problems with TMPGEnc.
Guide here: https://www.videohelp.com/virtualdubframeserve.htm
For a 20:43 minute video at 1400 MB, your bitrate would be 8800 kbps when encoded to DVD compliant MPEG-2. For a 500MB MPEG-2, it would be 2900 kbps, still high enough for decent quality. You may have a codec problem or something wrong with TMPGEnc. You might try reinstalling it. -
Thanks for the reply again. I checked the avi for erros and there were none. Also tried frameserving it and same thing happened. Tried different avi and same thing happen. I am going to try to reinstall TMPG and see that if that works. I believe I have all of the codecs I need to get all of these files to work.

now that I think about it....yeah I installed the XViD codec. I think I have gotten it to work now. I demuxed them and fixed the individual parts and muxed them back and it looks like it is working now. A lot of extra work but I guess it's all I have to do. Thanks for all the help.
