  1. Hi guys,

Maybe I've missed something here. DVD Shrink is now taboo. You can't download it from their website. They say "Plug this version number into Google and find it yourself". Great...

    But I've just read this:

    https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1486264#1486264

How come Ahead can sell Nero, if it does the same thing as DVD Shrink (and is basically DVD Shrink)? If the industry has a problem with DVD Shrink, why don't they have a problem with Nero?

ReCode cannot rip a CSS encrypted disc, whereas Shrink does. Therefore Shrink is designed to explicitly subvert DRM in contravention of US law. Nero Recode explicity state non-copy protected discs in it's marketing blurb.

  3. since when did shrink rip css encrypted disks?

i always thought you needed decrypter/smartripper/anydvd to perform that function.

the only thing i could possibly think of for shrink is that it was the mpeg2 encoding when you re-authored a 4.5gb+ disk. but if you used dual layer all it would be doing is repoducing a disk.

You used to be able to rip css encrrypted discs with dvdshrink.

Then the industry got smarter and started introducing errors that make shrink cough up a hairball.

It still rips the CSS. It is Arcoss that is the problem for Shrink. Anything that is only CSS encrypted can be ripped by Shrink, or DVD Decrypter, for that matter.

Didn't the developers for Shrink go on to work on Recode? I thought that made it a moot point (except for the ripping part).

Well, Shrink will rip some CSS disks but not all. I've had it cough on some CSS-only disks that Decrypter handled without problems. But, I only use Shrink to (ahem) "Shrink" now.

I may not be long before you can't find these, but I was talking about the other software as well. (IE: DVD decrypter, DVD43, 321Studios DVD-X-Maker, etc.)

I know countless people who have even purchased a copy of 321 Studios software from a download, but had to reinstall their OS, and can't get their copy of the software anymore. $100+ lesson learned. :P Mostly, because you could have gotten just as effective software for free.

As has already been stated... the older versions are forever saved on the internet.

  16. It's not only CSS here in the states but Macrovision internationally...who shut down DVDDecrypter and gave VH a warning.

Didn't Adobe merge with or buy Macrovision? Maybe Macrovision bought Adobe? Something like that?

So if you have the Adobe PDF reader, you're supporting a company that wants to limit your ability to back-up things you possess.

No - Macromedia is the creator of the flash and shockwave programs.

You are getting Macromedia and Macrovision confused.

    I didn't say I had an In-Depth report about it. :P

Next you'll be telling me Macrosoft & Microsoft are 2 different companies.

In all actuality, Bill Gates owns it all. He's now a member of the Freemason's, alongside with The Vatican, Colonel Sanders, and others. They have hidden messages in Catholic services, and they put a brain controlling toxin as part of the secret recipe in KFC chicken. They also own the patent on the pine tree air freshener and have secretly put microchips in everyone that can track you wherever you go. THEY KNOW EVERYTHING!!!!
