The are two hacks on the page. I believe the LG5000 firmware hack is the one that works. I know the keyboard hack does not - I tried it.

  3. That's odd. It definitely worked for me because I use it to watch some Region 2 PAL DVDs that I was sent from the UK. It even still worked after the IDE drive itself croaked and it the whole unit had to go back for repair!

Maybe the firmwares are slightly different. And two choices are better than one!

ginouac - Every player cannot be "hacked" to be put into multi-region mode. Further complicating things is that manufacturers will keep the model number but use different chip sets and firmware from year to year and "hacks" that work on one model may fail in the future because the hardware and firmware are actually different.

  7. Hmm, your player looks a lot like the LG 780, but without an HDD.

    You can try this:
    1) press SETUP on the remote control
    2) go onto padlock icon without selecting it
    3) press 1 1 6 6 buttons in sequence
    4) a message will appear confirming that "your unit is now region-free"

Try other listed hacks for the LG LRH-780

If that doesn't work, see if you can get into the Service Menu:
    - Turn on the player (with no disc in the loader)
    - Press and hold together the up and down arrows on the recorder
(not the remote) for about 6 seconds
    - If you get to the menu
BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO CHANGE ANYTHING!!!
    - Report back with all the OP codes (should be about eight of them: OP1 ... OP8)
    eg: OP1: 90 ... OP2: 00 ... OP7: 03 ... OP8: 01
    - Press Menu/List button to exit. Recorder will switch off.

  9. also there is no up and down button on the player...

Well, according to the manual you do. The channel buttons.

Are we talking about the same recorder? NS-DVDR1 (not NS-1DVDR) ...

Seems it's similar to LG LRA-750 and LG DR-175 (PAL). You can try looking for hacks for those two players first.
