Hi there,
I was reading on another page that this model Insignia comes multi-region out of the box? Is that even possible?
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Insignia%26%23153%3B+-+Internet+Connectable+/+Wi-Fi+Built-...&skuId=9892472
I'm in the US. All I want is to be able to watch all the regular Blu-Rays from here and also watch Blu-Rays from region B and C for about 100 bucks. But mostly B. Got a really good Philips DVD player a couple of years ago that did this perfectly with a factory firmware flash.
Thanks for any input.

No BluRay player available in stores in the USA and Canada can be unlocked for region free BluRay playback.
Currently since we've had reports that Momitsu has abandoned the North American marketplace your ONLY option for region free BluRay playback is to check out what's available for whatever current model Oppo sells. I haven't kept up with Oppo in some time but recent models required hardware replacement to make them region free. You need to check and see if their current models still can be hacked and find out if your seller has done the hardware mod for you or if you need to buy a part and do it yourself. -
I wouldn't hold my breath on this being true, but I suppose there is some chance that what you read means that the player is region free only for DVD playback. My previous post stands with regards to BluRay region free playback.

Ok, cool. Yeah, that makes sense. Are all the oppo's gonna be crazy expensive?
Also is it really true that most commercial Blu-Ray discs are region free anyway? -
It is true. I own this player and with a few button presses on the remote it's region free for DVD and BluRay. Most of the Insignia players can be hacked via the remote.

From this site. The hack listed is for the Canadian model, but it works on the US model as well.

It's also talked about and confirmed to work on the US NS-WBRDVD and NS-WBRDVD2 here: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/insignia-ns-wbrdvd/10506Last edited by ytsejam; 31st Jan 2011 at 19:38.

The North American market desperately needs more region free players, so it is good to be wrong about this player.
By the way, none of the previously known region free BluRay players in North America were available for purchase in brick and mortar stores. Note that shipping a player so that you can make it region free by entering a code does violate the BluRay licensing agreement so we'll see how long this player lasts. Both Oppo and Momitsu got around the issue by having sellers (always for Momitsu and sometimes for Oppo) or buyers (sometimes for Oppo) have to do a hardware replacement on the player to support region free playback so that the manufacturer could honestly say that they had nothing to do with it and had not violated the licensing agreement. -

After looking at the 2nd link in hech54's post, I'd advise the original poster to be sure that they can return the player for a full refund if the hack does not work. Reading all those posts leads me to conclude that there may be less than a 50% chance of it working. One possibility is that the hack did work on older hardware but the manufacturer has changed some of the components and the hack no longer works on newer models.

I purchased my NS-BRDVD2 five days ago at Best Buy. It has a manufacture date of November 2010. The code worked without any problems.
