  1. I recently tried playing a kvcd for the first time on my Philips DVP 642. And of course it didn't work. . .So I just wanted to make sure how to burn it correctly:

1.Mount the file using Daemon Tools

    2.Then various folders come up:
    ext, MPEGAV, Segment and VCD

    3. I open the MPEGAV folder and I burn that file straight to my CD-R

Is that correct? Do I need to rename the file or anything? or Burn another file to the disk? , for it to play in the DVP 642

When I play the CD-R the sound comes alright but the picture comes out greyed and hazy. Also the picture is not stable, moving vertically upward and reappearing on the bottom like the Vertical hold being broken on an Old TV.

I suspect that I am not burning the file format correctly. Is this correct ?

  2. AVI files with custom matrices play with odd colors. You can usually fix it by pressing System/Menu on the remote twice while playing. Maybe that will work for a KVCD MPEG file which probably uses a custom matrices too.

  3. yeah I tried that . . . and thing was the menu screen appeared that way too, ie grey and hazy . .it didn't revert back to the regular blue screen

Just wondering, am I burning the right files to the CD-R? . . . I am only burning the one large file in the MPEGAV folder . . .do I need to burn any of the smaller ones in the VCD folder as well?

  4. Wny don't you burn as a VCD? I don't know what you're burning with. In Nero Burning ROM it's Recorder -> Burn Image and select the image file (bin/que, ISO, whatever). That will make a VCD. I don't know if the DVP642 plays KVCD properly though.

  5. I burn all my vcds as data files using Roxio, but i'm guessing that it can't be done using KVCD's? . . . Installed NERO once but took all my comp's resources and Roxio was doing all right in past with DIVX

  6. Roxio has a burn ISO image too.

  7. I guess this falls under the category of a "newbie" question how do I create an ISO image from bin/cue file . . .is there a thread that I can be referred to?

BTW I used VCDgear to create an mpeg file. I also burned that to cd-r and once again it created the exact same picture quality as before . . .is it just the file that won't play properly? or is it that I am not burning it in the proper format?

  8. It's been a long time since I used any software from Roxio but I'm pretty sure it can burn bin/cue images too:

    http://www.photodex.com/support/faqs/iso.html#4

In the File Open dialog you may have to select "*.BIN" or "*.*" to see the bin/cue files.

  9. thanks for the reply, but it says

"CUE/BIN support is NOT provided in Roxio Easy CD CreatorŽ" only ISO images are supported

Is the there any way I can create an ISO image from bin/cue . . .easily if possible?

  10. You can use Daemon Tools (free) to mount the bin/cue as a virtual CD drive. Then you can probably use Roxio's Copy CD option to copy from the virtual drive to your CD burner.

Magic ISO (not free) can convert bin/cue to ISO.

There are free trials of Nero you could download -- but I seem to recall there can be conflicts if you install both Roxio and Nero.

  11. right . . .so i wanted just to make sure after I mount the bin/cue to the virtual drive I get the four folders: ext, MPEGAV, Segment and VCD

so what do I copy to the cd burner all four folders?
Do i use the disc copier option? or Can i just drag and drop all of the contents of the folder(s) using the normal data cd project option?

Daemon tools emulates a CD drive. The bin/cue files will look exactly like a VCD in a CD drive.

    Use the disk copy option.

  13. Thanks for clearing that up . . .but for some reason the E: drive, my "virtual drive" is not appearing as a source drive in the "copy from" drop down menu . . . So I tried burning using all the contents of the drive at once as a "data disk". Needless to say that it resulted in disk error.

So I'm gonna check how to get the virtual drive to appear in the disk copier menus and burn using the "disk copier" method as u suggested earlier.

It should work if you can convince Roxio to burn in "mode 2".

  15. yeah the "mode 2:CDROM XA" was selected but only present under the "Data CD Project" no options for this setting in the "disc copier".

I am not into KVCD at all, but just for the heck of it, I once converted a 2.5 hour foreign film into a single disc KVCD. Burn it like you would a VCD/XVCD. If you burn like a VCD using Nero, tell Nero to ignore compliance checking. The Philips DVP-642 played my disc with no problems, so what you are doing to burn is wrong. If you have a BIN/CUE file, Nero can burn this. The BIN file is your ISO. You are doing everything EXCEPT what you need to do - burn the BIN/CUE file and be done with it.

Friends don't let friends use Roxio. You may need a better burning program.

I have no interest in the format at all other than just creating the one disc for testing purposes. The quality is a little better than it should be at such low bit rates, but it's certainly not any better than normal VCD.

  17. I did a little searching. Try this free program:

    http://www.burnatonce.com/

Another thing occurred to me: Did you rename the bin and cue files? The cue file contains the name of the bin file -- if you rename the files the program may not be able to find the bin file because it will be looking for the old name.

For example if the files were originally:

    oldname.bin
    oldname.cue

    and you changed them to:

    newname.bin
    newname.cue

a burning program might still be looking for oldname.bin -- because that's the name that's listed inside the cue file.

The cue file is plain text. You should be able to open it with Notepad and examine it for the bin filename.

  18. Thanks ,

I used burnatonce burned perfectly very easy to use . . .but yet once again I am getting the same appearence problems

I guess by now its obvious that the file itself is the issue not the way I am burning it . . .

thanks for all the help guys, it was greatly appreciated.

That's the problem KVCD. It works on some players, not on others.
