Hello all, I hope someone can help.

I have both the philips dvp-642 and the newer philips dvp-5960. I've noticed that neither seems to recognize x.264 HD avi files. Does anyone know how I can adjust the philips or how I could go about adjusting the files keeping the quality to allow them to play?
    Thanks,

    -Daniel

You can't adjust the players to play h264 video or hd resolutions. You must reconvert to sd video or get a new player...but I haven't seen any dvd player with h264 hd avi/mkv playback support yet...

    It can't be done because
    1) Neither player will play any format video in HD.
    2) Neither player supports H.264/X.264.

I am not aware of any standalone DVD players at this time that support H.264/X.264. The DVP-642 does understand the MP4 container and apparently has some very limited ability to play, I think, QuickTime encoded MP4 files, but it won't play AAC audio at all.
