Hey Forum
I am new to video encoding and have been trying to fix an MPEG. When the file is in its original state the size is stated at 343Mb. When the file is played in any player (winamp or media player) the video plays to 0’2’42’’ but the sound continues to play.
I get errors in VirtualDub stating;
MPEG: Anachronistic or discontinuous timestamp found in video stream 0 at byte position 8509478, from 10801795 to 6010. This may indicate an improper join.
This error is repeated continuously.
The MyFlix Info has the following;
Systems Layer:
format = MPEG-1 Systems Stream
Video layer:
stream ID = 0xE0
format = MPEG-1
horizontal_size= 320
vertical_size = 240
pxl asp ratio = 1.0
frame rate = 29.97 frame/s
bit rate = 510000 bit/s
start time code= 00:00:00:00
chroma format = 4:2:0
first PTS = 0.100144
last PTS = 162.43
video duration = 162.363 seconds
Audio layer:
stream ID = 0xC0
format = MPEG Layer-II
bit rate = 48000 bit/s
sampling rate = 44100 Hz
mode = SINGLE_CHANNEL
ID = 1
first PTS = 0.100144
last PTS = 162.217
audio duration = 162.143 seconds
Actual statistics:
file length = 0359893160
real bit rate = 17732774 bit/s
I looked over the faqs, which suggested creating a VCD and copying the DAT file.

The new mpeg is now 650Mb and plays for 1’05’11’’. That appears to be the full movie, but the problem now is that the sound is very slow and distorted (perhaps the video too).
When I multiplex the file with TMPGEnc or using MPEG-Corrector there is no change to the file.
The MyFlix Info has the following for the new mpeg
Systems Layer:
format = MPEG-1 Systems Stream
Video layer:
stream ID = 0xE0
format = MPEG-1
horizontal_size= 352
vertical_size = 240
pxl asp ratio = 1.0950 CCIR601 525 line
frame rate = 29.97 frame/s
bit rate = 1100000 bit/s
start time code= 00:00:00:00
chroma format = 4:2:0
first PTS = 0.3367
last PTS = 3912.18
video duration = 3911.87 seconds
Audio layer:
stream ID = 0xC0
format = MPEG Layer-II
bit rate = 224000 bit/s
sampling rate = 44100 Hz
mode = STEREO
ID = 1
first PTS = 0.303333
last PTS = 3912.14
audio duration = 3911.86 seconds
Actual statistics:
file length = 0681898784
real bit rate = 1394521 bit/s
My best guess now would be to find a program that can speed up the new mpeg, so that the sound is of proper speed at the same time speed up the video so there are not any synchronisation problems.
Where to from here for the complete novice
Regards

I tried using the MPEG GOP fixer on MPEG-VCR on both the source file and the VCD file.
The amended source file produced a length at 2'42'' (similar running the MPEG through TMPGenc) and with the amended VCD file did not have any errors.
I have tried demultiplexing and multiplexing the file before (using TMPGenc) which resulted in the same reduced length of 2'42''.
Any other suggestions? -
VideoRedo has a function called "Quick Stream Fix" that might do the trick.
