I am not sure if this is possible or not, and I am curious if this could be done or not, so I will ask it here.

I want to burn a DVD, and let it ask for password every time someone try to open that DVD. Therefore unless that person know the correct password, the DVD could not be opened and the files inside may not be seen.

Is it possible to add in the password for DVD?

    Thanks in advanced,
    Nattawat

Its its a data DVD, then you can a utiliity like WinRAR. Put all your files into WinRAR and you can set a password so no one can extract those files without a password.

That what I was thinking in the first place. However, compressing ~4.7GB worth of files into winrar would have took me ages to do so, and everytime I want to use it, I must wait for ages to let it extract. So I think it isn't a very good idea, that's why I want to know if there's any other possible way.

If you're talking about a pincode for settop DVD players, there's a couple of guides for doing this with dvd-lab at the mediachance website.

As far as the PC goes, I'm sure there's some cd/DVD locking software you could find if you googled.

Either way, just remember that hollywood can't protect their DVDs in a fool-proof manner, so take this into consideration. Also think that you're disadvantaging the people who buy your DVDs in an attempt to stop those that don't buy.
    If in doubt, Google it.

It's a data DVD, not a movie DVD. And what I want is something that will ask for password before trying to open the DVD on PC.

I didn't plan on to protect from people who didn't buy DVD, but I'm trying to protect from people who aren't suppose to be looking at the files inside.

    I use Folder Lock:

But you need to use it on the same PC the password was created on.

There are also others. Just google for them.

    Google it.

At the end of the day, if these "people" have any wits about them, they'll find a way in regardless.
    If in doubt, Google it.

waheed's first suggestion is probably a good idea, especially if you don't want someone simply just taking the DVD to a Mac or Linux (or other) system, and accessing the files there. (Though, I think there is software to work out the passwords on archives, so as jimmalenko said, if they're determined enough...)

Would Folder Lock only work on a PC? And, does it need Autorun to be on? (yeah, yeah, I know - go look at the homepage. ^_^)

rar is a good idea as mentioned -- and if you set to no compression ... takes almost no time

anybody who really wants to get around this can... and quite easily. Extract the dvd to your hdd with the password, then reburn out the decompressed files - protection broken!

rar password can be broken by brute force cracking - but if you use random charactors - more than 10 ...

    it can take weeks ....

you could also just encrypt the contents with something like any of these programs http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/security/fwencrypt.html
