I'm thinking about getting the adaptec 3610 dual tv tuner, but I noticed that it has two tv inputs (coax), so in order to utilize both tuners, do I need to buy a cable splitter? I'm not sure if that's the solution. thanks in advance

the technical answer is yes..you'll always loose something when splitting the cable..whether or not you can perceive this loss is a different story, however.

most homes with analog cable have a single cable coming into them but they have more than 1 tv so there is a 5-way or whatever splitter in the attic. I don't think one more is going to hurt. buy one and see. they are cheap.

The second coax input is for the FM radio probably.
I think it is built just like the popular Hauppauge PVR500MCE and should have a internal splitter for the two TV tuners.

RF tuners are designed to adapt to a very wide range of gain levels beacuse that is the reality for cable systems and OTA antennas. You can over-split. In that case you need to convince the cable company to turn the gain screw up on the pole or find a new split strategy.

RF amps can help but cheap ones lack the 750MHz-1GHz bandwidth needed for modern cable. The cable guys have been instructed to remove such amps.
