I am doing "Are you being served"

Now i know how to encode but i was wondering,

It has a lot of high pitched canned laughter.

SHould i run a noise reduction filter?

IF so, wha settings should i use.

I use TMPG 2.50 to encode

shouldn't be neccesary, but as ever, test it, and if theres a problem, then deal with it.

    nb. british comedy = class.

I would just make sure when you record, that your input into your computer (if off a stereo system), or the recording volume (on the computer) are not set too "HOT". "Hot" means "loud". Actually this is a vital skill to master regardless if it's British Comedy, Sports, Cartoons, or Movies.

The only concern is probably what audio bitrate you plan on encoding to, and with which encoder. Of course, capture at the highest you can, or even uncompressed (WAV). I capture with ADPCM compression myself (It's 4:1 compressed WAV).

The bitrate itself is your personal taste. I encode everything at 128k Layer-II, and I notice some "S" hissing occasionally on my PC, but nothing when played on TV. If you're making a "standard" VCD format, I think it has to be 224k Layer-II, which kind of solves that.

Filters shouldn't be necessary, particularly if it's a "direct" capture (you're recording the show while it's on).

2-cents: I don't know about "class"... but British Comedy is pretty hysterical. Even "Are You Being Served" has moments.

I would love to find Are you being served again.

I have the episodes but they were recorded off the air and the quality isn't great.

I did them on SVCD but fell for some weird combo of VCD and SVCD that looks like blockworld.
