    LOL, it does look like an epic fail

    Although... there's possibly a valid reason for having a flash on his camera... Could you see the flash going off with that particular lens attached to his SLR?

    Even in bright sunlight, a flash can be used as a fill light - but only for nearby objects, obviously. He might have kept the flash on his camera after doing some close-up work. I can't see how the flash would be useful with the telephoto lens he's using there. Also the sun's behind him, so the scene wouldn't be particularly backlit from his POV.

    Still a funny photo though

    Plus, he's shooting squatting low like he's "On Assignment" from NatGeo. Hahaha gedd-aphuk-owt-taherr.

    Actually, when you start taking a lot of outdoor shots in strong sunlight, you'll discover it can cast harsh shadows on your subject. So his solution as well as your solution would be to use a flash outdoors to fill in the shadows.
