  1. i just bought a laptop and a Maudio Mobile pre usb preamp.was looking to use soundforge 7 to record concerts with my sony stereo mic or straight off the soundboard.anyone know how I can go about this? as i see it i click the record tab to open up a new recording session.after that not sure what i should set things at.i will be recording everthing from hard rock,blues,jam bands and punk.was told that soundforge can only record 1 gig at a time and then you have to start a new session.any help would be great.thanks

    Should be fairly straight forward as in the help files and docs. Think you should be able to record wav files up to the windows wav file size limit. I've used software that would quit at 2 gig, others have had a limit of 4, but even 2 gig means a bit over 2 hours worth.

    You should be fine, though I'd check the Wikipedia pages on multitrack recording just in case. Do a couple test runs of 1-minute length to make sure you got the volume settings done right, and stuff like that.

    Don't forget to double-backup with tape. If necessary you can always digitize the taped version.

    I'd record line level off their soundboard. The consumer version of SoundForge is limited to 16 bit 48Khz but so is the M-Audio.

    You can always use your "Sony mic" to get an audience stereo track using the laptop's sound system in parallel with the M-Audio over USB. You could record with a second instance of SoundForge or a separate audio program like Audacity.

    Rehearse all this before the concert.
