  1. Hi,

I try to backup a dvd, all is working fine except that the menu is not working. All the items not react to remote buttons. The menu works in computer (when I click on an item in powerdvd it works but the menu buttons are not highlighted, in the original it does)

The menu on this dvd is not a "true" dvd menu. Each animated item is a video (not referenced as a menu). They are referenced as titles in VTS 01.

In this DVD, the menu buttons are BOV (PGC Edit told me that). So how can I backup it with a working menu ?

I spent several hours with Nero Recode and DVD Shrink. Both are producing non working menu.

Are you setting the menu to any sort of compression in DVD Shrink? I never shrink my menus no matter how big they are because Shrink causes them to lose all functionality. If the menu is too big I usually replace it with a single still background picture and some new buttons. A reauthoring program would help you with this.

  3. Yes I shrink the menu because It's about 850 MB (waste 20% of dvd is too much for a menu) and I try to reduce its size to the max.

I always shrink my menus to the max and I never had a problem.

Only this dvd is causing trouble.

EDIT: I just tried to backup the dvd by setting the menus to no compression bu it's still the same.

PS: One thing I forgot to say, the menus are stored in the "bonus" sections in Shrink and Nero Recode.

Never test using the mouse, because it isn't same as using a remote. The keyboard mimics a remote much better.

I assume you are not using re-author mode and dragging these titles across to be backed up. In which case, it may just be a structure that Shrink isn't prepared for, and you need to look at an alternative backup method.
