    Is anyone familiar with a free software I can use to screen capture my windows desktop to record myself using a software program - directly to AVI? I'd like to record directly using my Canopus DV AVI Codec.

    Any suggestions for this?

    I like Camstudio a lot. Still works fine on XpSp2 boxes. Still freeware. Just recently converted an animated PPT show via losslessly-compressed AVI, to DVD--looked great (except the stupid PPT transition FX!).

    Using Camstudio - would I be able to import the AVI it creates into my Adobe Premiere Pro?

    yep, you can select video codec like dv,huffyuv,mjpeg,divx...Try it, it's freeee!
