    Now that i'm getting a laptop and all, i decided i want to go the cheap route for a DVD-RW drive. Whats the cheapest,but fuctional external encloseure out there for converting a desktop burner to external USB/firewire? Don't want to spend much,just something simple thats works well.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    http://www.cooldrives.com/ is one company that has a fair selection. There are others just a 'Google' away. Newegg undoubtably has a few.

    I would recommend Firewire for external drives. USB works fine most of the time, Firewire most always works.

    I have two of these ... one in from of me and one I carry with me ... with my laptop ... work just fine for me. There is a firewire version.

    CompUSA had a sale on their Mad Dog USB external enclosures recently ... retail was around $50 bucks ... they had them priced for $25 bucks ... I bought all of them sitting there ... 3 of them.

    I have one being used in my wife's computer room.

    Try these people too .... I've been getting stuff from them ...
