You need some sort of capture card or device.

  3. How did you connect the camera to the PC? Presumably firewire, more information would be helpful.

If the camera has audio/video inputs, connect the VCR to it and the firewire to the PC. The camera acts as a passthru device, no other hardware needed.

This is an educated guess based on the limited info supplied.

You can get something like the Canopus ADVC110. Connect it to your pc using a IEEE 1394 (Firewire) and you should be on your way.

  5. Thanks for the replies, i connected my camcorder to my PC via firewire and used WinDV to get the video of the camcorder.

The camcorder is not actually my camcorder its my sisters she asked me to get the videos of the tapes and put them on DVD which i did. Ill have to get it back and see if its got the audio/video inputs.

Do most modern camcorders have those?

On a slightly different subject i was thinking about buying the below i have read numerous reviews here in the UK which claim it is by far the best TV TV card available i also here the software is 1st class. Is it possible that has the connections needed to capture videos from a VHS player?

  6. Given the price of that unit, have you thought about a dvd recorder instead?
