  1. I put in a DL dvd burner in a computer tonight. I have a film on a DVD+R DL disc and it won't play in my Apex, and I want to transfer the film over onto DVD-R DL. So, I transferred the TS folders onto my drive and then tried to run the Veritas RecordNow software. But RecordNow doesn't recognize the drive - it says there is no device capable of writing to.

Now, is this because this is a DL burner and my software is version 4.6?

I tend to think so, but what if I was only burning a single layer disc with this burner? You would still have to have a more recent RecordNow version?

  2. The only update to RecordNow that I know of is the "PX Engine" and you can get that here http://www.prassieurope.com/

Or you could simply use DVDDecrypter (free) and set the "mode" to ISO Read and write an ISO file to your drive then set the mode to ISO Write and the program will burn your DL disc.

  3. Couple of things. Is your current +DL disc bitset to DVD-ROM? If not, that's probably why the APEX won't play it and I can't be sure that a -DL disc will do any better. As for RecordNow, I have version 7.3 and it does DL discs. I don't think that it supported them until at least 7.0.

  4. So, is DVD_Decrypter going to help me with DVDs I "Create". I create them with DVDit or ReelDVD.

Since it's free I of course will try that first since I don't like having to shell out $50.00 on a RecordNow Upgrade and then find out it is not the solution.

What concerns me most I guess is that the RecordNow version I currently have, 4.6, won't even recognize the drive. Since the drive is new and just installed I'm concerned that it might be a driver issue. (No software came with the drive). I'm using WinXP and the system recognizes it as a DVD-RAM drive. And I was able to transfer the TS folders from a DL disc to the harddrive. But the fact that RecordNow won't recognize it gets me a bit leery.

  5. I have and use RecordNow version 4.5 and it has recognized every drive I have installed in many computers. I suggest you update the PX Engine of RecordNow and see if that fixes the problem.

I use RNM 4.5, works great. SL discs only.
For DL discs, must use RN7 or later.

  8. i have the older 4.5 (veritas/stomp ) version for Recordmax. Their is a hack made (found off a forum on this board) that allows record max to see newer drives. I can now (well for quite a few months) use my pioneer 109 irive with this version of recordmax. However you do need the newer Sonic version to do dual layer burning.
