Can ATI AIW capture dvd compliant video?

Greetings,
Have an AIW radeon 7500 using mmc 9.0. I've tried several variations of mpeg2 capture, but tmpgenc dvd author gives errors, either "could not initialize decoder" or that it needs a video sequence decoder.
Tried both mpeg2, mpeg2-dvd format using 720x480 resolution, and with both I frames only and 4:2 sequencing with closed GOP.

Also read the capture faq about capturing w/aiw and pretty much followed advice (except for resolution). Read through other faq's as well, but don't know what to do next.

Any help is appreciated.

Yeah, read everything EXCEPT the first paragraph of the article you referenced. Ok, newbie stamped on my forehead.

And it does look like TDA is messed up, 'cuz I downloaded MVWDVD and it worked like a charm. Excited to say I've authored my first of several DVD's.
