Am new to DVD and will be converting a number of VHS tapes to DVD.

Am interested in a multi-format DVD recorder and am considering either the Sony RDRGX315 or its predecessor which is still available through a number of vendors, the RDRGX300. Both are running around $200.

Any suggestions/recommendations as to which is the better, easier, more reliable version and is so, why specifically?

    Thanks in advance.

I had the 300 and liked it simply because it would tape from digital cable. When it broke I replaced it with the 315 only to find it WILL NOT tape digital cable. I took that pile of crap back in two hours. I will not own a recorder that wont tape TV
I found a 300 model store demo and bought that. Now I can still tape from cable,.....at least till this one breaks. As discussed elsewhere on this forum, more and more companies are making their recorders COPY PROTECE sensitive, so these older units are (in my opinion) more desireable.
If you're looking to copy licensed VHS movies to DVD, then it's almost certain the 315 will not work. If they are home movies, then MAYBE the 315 will work.
Where are you buying the 300 model? There aren't many around, at least not here in SoCal.

At least 2 internet sites are offering the Sony 300. Go to pricegrabber.com, ask for sony dvd recorder under electronics. Good luck.

The two that are on pricegrabber are actually 315s.
I've found that a lot. They say 300 but when you go to buy, they say 315.
Well Ebay has them from time to time. but I really hope to find a new recorder, made by ANYBODY, that will by pass the COPY PROTECT signal.
