avi to hd conversion problem

ok have just bought a samsung le32m5 lcd tv wich is hd ready . want to play hd movies from my pc onto my tv . i have connected my pc to tv as an extra monitor but now i want to convert my movie rips into hd format. i have been told to get some software called transition hd (http://www.kazazz.com/transition/screenshot.html)wich will convert avis to hd format but been told it can take 15 to 20 hours to convert and looks expensive. is there some other wy to convert my avis to high definition ?

You can't get hd from dvd,avi dvd rips. You can add some filters but it is far from hd.

and 352x240 to 1920x1080 in that example must be a joke...

I use ffdshow on my htpc to increase the resolution to 1280x720 in realtime playback, read http://htpcnews.com/main.php?id=ffdshowdvd_1
