    I burnt to a memorex DVD+r disk.
This burnt disk plays fine on my pc, but not on a
    dvd player
    I get the following message:
    Disk Error
Play feature may not be availible on this disk.
The original disk plays fine on a dvd player and mypc. This is a homemade video
When viewing the dvd contents i see the following
    file extensions

this is no dvd to avi. moving you.

how did you burn? you must burn the video_ts folder, see https://www.videohelp.com/author#3;25

or your dvd player may not like the media you are using, www.nomorecoasters.com

and try also dvdr-r and dvd+r.

What kind of a standalone is it ?

Have you played dvd+r's or any burned dvdr's on it before ?

Have you tried this disc on a diff. standalone player ?

    Thanks for your replies
The standalone is a Sylvania about 3 yrs old
Yes we have played burnt DVD's on it before
I do not have another standalone DVD player to try
I do know the disk i copied to my pc was a burnt disk and it works
fine on this stand alone player
I used a free dvd burning program called HT Fireman, maybe thats my
    problem? Does it matter ?

HT Fireman says it burns Data DVD's. It doesn't say anything about converting stuff to video DVDs. So unless you did that and just have it burn the authored image, you clearly did not do it right.
