I've been using TMPGenc DVD-Author to convert DVDs to a single mpeg file so that I can edit in VideoRedo. The problem is that with large DVDs (for example, 6gb) it splits it into 2 mpeg files. How can I convert a larger DVD to a single mpeg?
My drives are NTFS, so I don't see why I can't get the larger file.

why not just use TMPGenc DVD-Author to edit the vobs?
What We Do In Life, Echoes In Eternity.... -
TMPGenc DVD-Author's editing capability isn't as good as VideoRedo. You can only cut on key frames and there's no audio, so it makes it difficult to choose the correct edit points. I've also found that editing with TDA causes jerks at the cut points on standalone DVD players. TDA's editor really butchers the mpeg structure. If you take a DVD that's been edited heavily with TDA and try to encode it to divx or xvid, it will have sound sync problems. I lived with those problems for quite a while and was thrilled when I found VideoRedo.
I wasn't aware that DVD Decrypter would produce a single mpeg file. How do you do that? I've tried both IFO and FILE modes -
In DVD Decryptor click on "MODE" and make sure "IFO" is selected. Now click on TOOLs, then SETTINGS. Then click on the "FILE MODE" tab. Under "OPTIONS" File Splitting setting select "NONE" and click "OK". Now try ripping your file. Please remember that FAT & FAT32 formatted drives have a 2gb & 4gb file size limit respectively, but I'm guessing that you are ripping to a NTFS formated drive since you are running Windows XP so the FAT format drive limits should not affect you.

Never assume that XP is installed with NTFS. A lot of upgraded machines don't convert files systems, and a lot of commercially built machine ship with Fat32 as the file system. Old habits appear to die hard. More than 50% of machines I see are still FAT32 under XP.

See my first post..... I'm using NTFS
I set Decrypter as suggested and it produced 4 VOBs, an IFO, and a text file. I want a single MPEG file. That is, a file that ends with the extension ".mpg"
Also, DVD Decrypter only seems to recognize optical drives. What if you want to convert it from the hard drive? I already have several things ripped. -
Rejig can work with files on the HDD, Decrypter only reads from the DVD (it was designed as a ripper only).
When you choose to demux using Decrypter you have am option to produce a single file. I believe it is a check box. You obviously didn't tick it.
Look at Rejig - it should work for you.Read my blog here.

I downloaded Rejig. Don't see how that will do what I'm looking for. Looks like it produces demuxed files.
I don't want to demux. I want a SINGLE MPEG file.
According to a post by Baldrick on this page: https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=224833 DVD Decrypter will not convert to mpeg anyway.
Also, VOB2MPG is out because it requires .net framework and I don't want to install that. -
If you have the new version of video redo(2.2.1) you can load all the ripped vobs from your hard disc as one file with combine, then edit and save them as one file mpg. From DVDs you can use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode, as discriped above BUT on "IFO MODE" tab(not FILE), under "OPTIONS" File Splitting setting select "NONE" and click "OK"and produce one single VOB file, then edit again in Videoredo and save it as mpg. Hope this helps.

No, I haven't tried to merge them with TMPGenc. From looking at the program, it's not clear how it performs that function (where to join, whether it's seamless/lossless? etc.) I did experiment with 2 small 1-mb clips that I downloaded. The output file was about half the size it should have been, so something was lost.
My version of VideoRedo will not open multiple VOBs
sstavross, I tried your Decrypter settings on a new rip and it worked. The output was a single VOB and an IFO file. I hope that IFO file doesn't contain critical info needed in the editing process. I haven't edited yet, but will try it. -
UPDATE: I may have found a different solution.
I used DVD Shrink (with no compression) to extract the main movie only. The result was still 6.2gb, but TMPGenc DVD-Author was able to convert it to a single mpeg file!
I don't know why this caused it to work, but so far so good. At least I now know that there's not a 4.3gb limit on mpegs produced by TMPGenc DVD-Author. I hope it works with subsequent DVDs. -
"I don't know why this caused it to work"
guess would be that using shrink to extract the title you got rid of the break, so it appeared as one video to tda.
"I don't want to demux. I want a SINGLE MPEG file.
...with TMPGenc. From looking at the program, it's not clear how it performs that function (where to join, whether it's seamless/lossless? etc.) "
Lots of prog. require separate files, or will just demux mpg files anyway once you import them. No difference really between video portion -- not altered by mux/de-mux. MPEG Tools portion does splitting/joining/muxing/demuxing. Under normal circumstances just re-writes headers after simply copying files.
