I seem to have a problem capturing using Svideo connections.

I have 2 computers with Pinnacle cards in them, both are AV/DV cards & I use Studio 9.

I can capture using the AV with RCA leads but the Svideo doesnt seem to work.

Here is what I am trying to do.

Play a movie on dvd player , run an Svideo lead from the Svideo out socket on the player to the Svideo in socket on the capture card.

This works with AV but NOT Svideo. I have instructed Studio 9 to capture via the Svideo connection, but it still doesnt work.

I though it might be a Macrovision thing, so tried it with a home made dvd, same problem.

Also doesnt work using my other dvd player.

There must be something wrong here for this procedure NOT to work using different players & different cards. I must be doing something really basically wrong.!

BTW I can use the SVideo out socket on the dvd player to get video signal to my TV.

SO maybe the Svideo out sockets on DVD players are just for using with TVs & not for transmitting to other devices. Anyone shed light on this problem.

    cheers

  2. YOu might want to look at the video out menu of your DVD player. Some will have separate settings for composite, S-video and component out. It may be that you will need to set the player to S-video.
I too have a Pinnacle AV/DV card which works great with Scenalyzer Live for timed captures of video.

My *guess* would be something related to copy protect, or just poor signal from your DVD player. TVs will play an inferior signal. Easy way to tell is to feed another signal to your card, ie. cable box out etc... If it works, it's your player -- if not, start with swapping the cables, checking software etc.

i had the crappy card pinnacle dv/av 9 deluxe. I hadn't problems with the macrovision...... sounds like pinnacle studio bugs like always....... i would update to 10..
At least , in my pc , I can't capture never well with pinnacle studio 9.
I could see some vertical lines in my captures. With the last version of pinnacle studio 10 , it dissapeared.
    Crappy card and software.

  5. Why not just rip the DVD?
