  1. First off, thanks for the soundcard recomendations;I bought a Soundblaster 16 PCI, and it got rid of the hiss problem. Now,on to the current problem:

Because I wasn't able to get Virtualdub to work with MMC 7.1, I downloaded MMC 6.3 off a website. It worked great with Virtual dub because of the vfw drivers of course, but there was one small problem:

There was no Video In function on the toolbar!

I then did some reading, and saw how you could edit the install.ini file in MMC 7.5 to get the TV function to work, so I did the same with 6.3; I uninstalled it,changed DetectHW =1 to DetectHW =0 in install.ini, then reinstalled it.Voila,I was able to get Video In on the toolbar. But when I clicked on it, an error came up about "AMC Peripheral Not Found".I did a search on Google Groups for this, and then came up with a link to ATI's website that had suggestions on how to fix this error.I tried all of them, with no luck.I'm guessing that what I did in install.ini was not the correct way to get Video In working....anyone out there have any suggestions on how to get this to work?

    Thanks,

  2. Your post confuses me. You say you can't get VirtualDub to work with MMC 7.1, so you installed MMC 6.3. How would this solve it? The drivers are your problem, as VFW support was taken out in the later ATI drivers, and as VirtualDub could only use VFW drivers to capture properly (except for the recent VFW->WDM wrapper which is useless), it can capture properly (assume that was the reason for you using VirtualDub). Please clear this up for me.

But, I can suggest you search the forums at http://www.rageunderground.com and http://www.rage3d.com as there has definatly been threads about this a long time ago.

  3. Ok, maybe I wasn't clear enough:

1.I bought a ATI TV Wonder PCI, and installed MMC 7.1 that came with it.

2.I discovered that Virtualdub wouldn't work with 7.1;after searching this forum, I found out about the WDM/VFW driver problem, and how a wrapper(dx80bda.exe, correct?)might solve the problem.I downloaded and installed it....it didn't work I then did another search in this forum and read a few posts about how 6.3 had the VFW drivers, and worked with Virtualdub.I then uninstalled all the ATI stuff in the device manager, uninstalled MMC 7.1 in add/remove programs, then installed MMC 6.3.

3.I discovered that the "Video In" button wasn't available on the toolbar. This enables me to view/capture on my desktop whatever signal I pump into it (TV/VCR), correct?

    4. I saw in a post how editing the install.ini file in 7.5 fixes a similar problem.I thought "What the hell", and did
the same thing in 6.3's install.ini.

5.Video In then appeared on my MMC toolbar. But it doesn't work.A "AMC Peripheral Not Found" error comes up.
