Which DVD-ROM drives are really good at reading bad discs? You know, like scratched up DVDs, cheap barely-burned DVDRs, etc.

i've always had good luck with pioneer dvd burners.. especially the pioneer a04/104..

that thing has a great laser..

and they're built like brick shithouses.. i know 2 people who bought them when they first came out and are still using them..

I've used my trusty old PLEXTOR 708A for discs that can't be read by my TOSHIBA 1612 DVDROM's, PIONEER 107D, LITEON's 411 & 166S, BENQ 1620 & 1640. But yet sometimes the PLEXTOR 708A can't read a scratched disc but the other DVD BURNERS/DVDROM's can. I have a vast selection to choose from which one of them eventually works.

  4. I like Lite-On for this purpose. I never had the chance to try out Plextor 708A but as a last resort I would try my 712/716A to see if it can read. But in general if my Lite-On can't read it, I can be pretty certain my Plextors can't read it either...
