I am editing home movie files (AVIs) which contain very young grandchildren in an undressed state. Nowdays these may be considered as child porn so is there a way to pixelate areas of the body. I use both Nero and Pinnacle 9+. TIA for your help. Yrnehbad

i never understood the fascination of parents capturing their naked children in the first place other than to embarrass them when they get older.
I think it would really look creepier if you had blotches all over them. If they are your grandchildren then keep the copy to yourself. There's really no need to show it to anyone else anyways. I don't think it would be considered criminal if they are your offspring and you aren't distributing it. anyone else may feel free to correct me, however. -
WrigleyVideo has a tutorial for Premiere to do it. It might help you find the right answer in Pinnacle. See here for details

Pinnacle would likely be the best choice, but you could probably also do it in Virtual Dub with a logo filter.

Open the filmstrip in Photoshop.
Create a new layer on top of the filmstrip.
Zoom in on an individual frame and draw black censor bars over the area that you want to cover up.
Repeat for each frame in the clip.
Or, if you don't want to have censor bars detracting from the video, you could just leave off the new layer and use the smudge tool to smudge the areas in question. Again, repeat for each frame.
Flatten the image if you are doing the multiple layers.
Export the file as a filmstrip.
Import the filmstrip back into Premier.
I haven't tried this myself. It sounds like a lot of work, but it may be what is necessary to do the trick. Hopefully there is a filter or trick that Pinnacle can do that would be much easier than this.
Good Luck! -
Your best bet is to either cut out the scenes completely, or crop out the kids. Especially if you live in California.

Wait a sec, pls... Vegas can do it too - easy, easy. Duplicate the video track and on the track that is above the other one you can insert one of many video FX effects.

Child nudity by itself does not meet the legal definition of child porn.
You are allowed to keep these recordings as home movies for your own use.Eric -
A script in AviSynth could take care of it too.
1) Load the clip into v
2) make a copy (v2=v)
3) pixel resize v2 very small (start with a quarter size)
4) resize back to normal size
5) using overlay and crop, you can place the pixelated box anywhere in the frame. Or perhaps you make a mask with an oval shape in it. Then you can move around the mask revealing the pixelated part.

Thank you again for all your replies. Perhaps the easiest thing for me is to edit out the offending clips. I'm 71, terminally ill with stomach cancer and running out of time. Yrnehbad
