Considering buying a laptop for my son, however we need to ensure that it is OK at playing SIMS 2.

SIMS 2 has a video requirement of ATI Radeon or grater OR NVIDFIA GeForce2 or greater. http://www.ati.com/products/radeon7200/

The laptop has a ATI Radeon Xpress 200M with 32M of shared memory. http://www.ati.com/products/Radeonxpress200m/

All of the rest of the Laptop spec is fine for the game.

Will the 200m do the job, or should I wait 6 months for the next tier of laptops to come down to the bargain basement?

the 200m is better than the 7200. Both will play a game such as the Sims perfectly. The requirements aren't that demanding for this game. Given these two choices and all other things considered equal I'd go with the 200m based system.

i know a 200m has played World Of Warcraft for a friend of mine (unsure of his FPS) so it should be fine.

however some laptops have a simple upgrade that takes the 200M from 32shared to (I THINK) 64mb onboard, if that option is there it WILL be worth the extra cash.

I know my regular Radeon Xpress 200 plays NFS: Most Wanted just fine (albeit 640x480). So I imagine 200m should have similar power.

Thganks for the replys. It looks like the laptop will be ok for SIMS. Will investigate if the video memory can be upgraded to 64M dedicated, but will buy anyway, as it meets the minimum requirments.
