! ! ! S U C C E S S ! ! !
I have my XP 1700+ working in my Motherboard:
MSI K7T PRO 2-A MB
* VIA KT133 chipset
* PC133 128mb Ram
* ATI Rage Fury Pro (32MB AGP)
* ATI-TV Wonder video capture card (PCI)
* Hauppauge WinTV PVR (USB)
* Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card
* 20g / 30g HardDrives (30g for captures)
* ATA-100
* Windows 98
* ENCODERS: TMPGEnc old and NEW v2.50 / CCE
Cons:
* am not getting 50% or greater speed boost, not
even close.
* windows 98 boots up in the same amount of time as in
my prev Athlon T-Brd 900MHz system
* where's the boost?
Pros:
* it's working!! ...at least.
* where's the boost?
I will hold off on MY encoding time speed difference till
I have time to capture an hours worth of satalete and then
encode. So, until then. . .stay tuned.
HISTORY:
How I finally got it to work...the short version, he, he...
I changed setting in my BIOS for Voltage/Freq. to:
* from a 3.3v to a 3.45V
CPU CLOCK RATIO:
* from Default to a x11
By the way, as for the Temperature, I may have misslabled
it. Should have read:
* CPU is 36C / 96F
* SYS is 32C / 89F
These were my readings in my prev. posts. And, I can
change shut-off settings with these values:
* 70C / 158F
* 75C / 167F
* 80C / 176F
* 85C / 185F
CPU:
That's it! Now, how do I increase speed???????

Its the chipset..I have the KT133, and honestly its one of the worst chipsets out there, also, first of all...it only supports front side bus speeds up to 200, NOT 266 like the XP needs, http://www.via.com.tw/en/apollo/KT133.jsp, XP 1700 = 1400 mhz, 1400/10.5 (almost unchangeable multiplier) = 133 mhz, ie 266....even though you may be able to set the first side bus speed to 133 (266) in the BIOS, the CHIPSET is throttling to only 1 Ghz, which is why you do not see any performance gain over the tbird 900....which why the chipset is only rated for the Tbirds & durons, NOT XPs.....its time for another motherboard w/o the crappy kt133 chipset... trust me
I have the Asus A7V w/ KT133, I put my XP 1600 on it because I coudnt wait till the motherboard got here...and was severely disappointed, even though I was able to increase the frontside bus too a stable 106 (ie, 212), which meant my XP was only running at 1113 mhz, speed was still lacking what I expected, numerous lockups, & errors...my new motherboard with SIS 735 chipset shows up, I put all the same parts on it as was on the Asus.....and BAM!!!, enocding time cut in 1/2 with TMPG, and I wont even tell you the ridiculously fast speed CCE does now.
O, and DDR ram instead pc133 wouldnt hurt either.

Kdiddy,
thank for your info. Will swallow that MB upgrade for a while. But, I would like
a GOOD mb, one w/out problems (or too many) and also, one that will allow
me to add LOTs of RAM!!! I want to have 1gigs at least (ok, when monies
start pile'ing up, he, he... ) Seriously though, I want a stable mb and chipset
combo and good room for lots of RAMing. . .

well my ECS k7s5a was only 55 bucks (US), it only downside is that it only has 2 total IDE controller slots, even though they are ATA 100...that would only allow for 4 devices natively....it has 2 SDRAM slots & 2 DD RAM which both support up to 1 GB.

kddiddy,
thanks for the info. $55 starting to sound good
by the way, just had my first lockup. I was doing a mulititude
of encoding projects all night yesterday and today. And, I really
worked my PC. But still. . . that $55 MB is starting to sound good.
Anyways, just thought I'd update you's all on my XP progress.
