    A tough one for you.

I have some AVI Xvid files that have been sent to me. These are English TV programs.

Now when I watch them on my PC the audio slips in and out of sync with the video. Sometimes the sync is fine, sometimes just noticeable, and sometimes really way out. But it isn't consistent. It will play from out of sync then back into sync. I would have thought that once it went out of sync it would stay out.

I play the files in Windows Media Player, and Winamp and the problem is the same.

I can burn the file to DVD and the problem is still there.

They are in PAL, but I have a PAL DVD player. I have burned them with Nero in PAL and NTSC with no improvement.

Now my source tells me the files play fine at his end

    I have Pentium 4 2 Gigs ram, 2 x 200 gig HDs

    Any help please?

    Thanks

Since the problem is with the original files, I would expect the problem to also be apparent to the original user, unless the files were corrupted during the transfer.

Not that it will matter much, but have you tried playing the files with a seperate player such as MPC or VLC.

I would suggest that the audio is VBR MP3, which can cause problems for some playback apps and most decoding apps. Try using virtualdubmod to save the audio as an uncompressed wav, then reencoding as CBR MP3 at the same bitrate, then replacing the VBR audio with the new CBR audio.
