Hi, I'm a bit new to this, I've dabbled in VCDs for the PC in the past, but I just got my first standalone DVD player (the Shinsonic DVD-3838). I have been burning a few test videos to put the player through it's paces and see what works and what doesn't. It seems to play everything quite well, there is just one minor issue as to how it handles SVCDs as opposed to VCDs that I am seeking assistance for:

When I put a VCD into the unit it will load the disc and then I just press the play button to start the video. That's just fine. However, when I put an SVCD into the unit it doesn't quite act the same way. What it does is display a root folder directory listing of the disc, similar to what you'd see on a computer or when you play an MP3 disc. I am therefore unable to simply press play to start the SVCD like I can with a regular VCD, what I must do is navigate to the Avseq01.mpg file within the Mpeg2 folder in order to play the SVCD.

This isn't really a huge problem, but for the sake of convenience I am curious if anyone might know of a way that I could author an SVCD to behave similarly to a VCD in my standalone so that I could just press play to get it going rather than have to navigate the folders.

My first assumption was that I could create a simple menu on the SVCD that would bypass the folder listing and just let me play the video from the menu. So I followed the 'How to make a SVCD including a menu with Nero 5.5+' authoring guide on this site to create such a disc, but when I tried it out in the Shinsonic no menu appeared, just the same old root folder listing. I guess that's a whole other can of worms as to why the menu didn't work. Do only certain DVD players support such menus?

So, does anyone here know if there would be any other way aside from menuing to author an SVCD that would bypass the folder-navigating inconvenience?

Many thanks in advance for any advice or assistance any of you might have for me on this.
